Oh-so-pretty table!

Last week was my first post on my new blog. I posted about a lovely demi-lune table I purchased from a gentleman through Kijiji. This week, I'm posting about another table I purchased from him at the same time. He very kindly sold me BOTH these tables for a grand total of $30.00! So THANK YOU Mr. Bob! Hope you like what I've done with your old treasures. This oval table had been given to his wife by her aunt many, many years ago. I LOVE to know the "stories" behind my new-old-things, don't you? Now this little beauty needed a LOT of thought and elbow grease. This is what she looked like when I started; her top was badly split, the wood was cracked in several places.

So I started with Gorilla Glue and a prayer!

So that worked! Then I filled uneven edges with a LOT of wood filler.
Then I stripped the old finish off the top, sanded, and stained with Minwax Vermont Maple water based stain. Then I sanded the edges...a LOT...to try to get a smooth finish.

Then I covered the newly stained top so I could apply Zinsser Bin Primer and Rustoleum Painter's Touch Heirloom White Satin Paint.

Okay, so I didn't tape well enough. ACK! I'm still very new to all this, can you tell?

Mineral Spirits, lots of TIME, and Q-tips helped me even out the edges.

So, here she is all finished...

...and here's a closeup of the glazed finish. I mixed a little black acrylic paint with Benjamin Moore Aqua Glaze, then applied a coating of Minwax Polycrylic for protection, and finally, three coats of clear paste wax. I sanded little sections for a more vintage look...you can see that if you click on the last picture...may even do a little more sanding yet...I'm just TICKLED PINK with her! When I see how a piece can go from that to this, I'm hopelessly addicted to doing more!
Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by today. I'm linking to some parties today too.
